Rawana & Bambarakanda Falls
Title Rawana & Bambarakanda Falls

This too is situated by a highway, namely that which runs between Wellawaya and Ella of the Uva Province of the isle. Named after an ancient king . Obviously the surroundings of this waterfall become increasingly polluted by the vast number of people who visit it, either purposely or en route to some other place who can't help but stop for a while to have a refreshing look. Actually the author was compelled to prune the lower part of the photo that appears here in order to preserve the natural beauty which mightn't have been there with several vehicles parked on the bridge below.

As it is described by Dr.Eberhard Kautzsch in his book " A Guide to the Waterfalls of Sri Lanka " : " Within a majestic basin-shaped valley bordered by huge steep rocks and dark green forests of pines and tropic trees the highest waterfall of Sri Lanka plunges with two silver ropes over a vertical dark grey wall between Mt. Welihena and Mt. Bambaragala into a deep pool only 150 m walking distance from a small motorable road off A4 ( from Avissawella to Haputale and beyond )at Kalupahana-Ganwasangoda to Quitota ."

The photo that I took on my visit there betrays the usual grand appearance of the falls however as it happens to have been shot during the dry season when ,let alone Bambarakanda, the massive man-built reservoirs in the country may even get dried up.
