Till the people realise their folly in choosing this govt. in 1994.

How Long Chandrika?.. Who else?
« Reply #6 on: January 3, 2001, 09:52:56 AM »

Yes, Chandrika is hogging the top job without doing much to the ordinary Sri Lankans. But let us consider other options... who else is there to make things any better? What we need in Sri Lanka is a new concept... I think the Sihala Urumaya started out well, but some of their members got too greedy at the end - the reason for their demise. What we need in Sri Lankan politics is accountability.

We, Sri Lankans, are quite famous to condemn and criticize. Nothing wrong with that as long as we have a sutiable alternative solution at hand to recommend. No doubt we have had some distarous politicos in our history. My personal view is that we need to bring in the academics and the professionals into parliament. We have to do away with the stereotype archaic mudalali system. I support CBK in her posotive steps to solve the ethnic crisis and develop the nation. However, She must, first, get rid of the goondas in her closet.

My colleagues have been listening intensively to hundreds of Sri Lankan citizens from all walks of life. They said:

The nation faces a deep crisis;
PUBLIC INSTITUTIONS ARE POLITICISED;
POLITICIANS ARE NOT ACCOUNTABLE;
PEOPLE ARE NOT HEARD, and they are isolated; and
Give us opportunities, not handouts.

Visionary leaders inspire and raise the sight of the people ABOVE THEIR LOWEST COMMON DENOMINATOR. They help their people see beyond the immediate personal losses to greater opportunities for all.

No development process will ever be truly participatory without HUMBLE LEADERSHIP -- leaders of courage who can draw strength from HUMILITY and GAIN POWER BY GIVING IT AWAY.

Opening Address - Mieko Nishimizu, Vice President, South Asia Region, The World Bank

============
Neither Chandrika nor any of the cohorts AND THUGS around her have HUMILITY or VISION. Even the new constitution (courtsey of Prof. Pieris) was an eyewash to perpetuate Chandrika's rule forever and give her immunity for life. That was what it was all about. It was never meant to solve the national problem. Talk about leaders not having vision or humility.

But Chandrika is not going away anytime soon. Elections will continue to be massively rigged as in WAYAMBA and by the likes of SB and Anurudha, and Chandrika will continue to reward them. Thugs will be kept in the Cabinet, and promoted, until perhaps a Yugoslav style revolution of the people takes place. Until the people are ready for that we better shut up and lump it and learn to live with Chandrika.

Well Fazsam, as I see it the UNP will be the lesser of the two evils. At least they have the brains to develop the economy. The levels of the Stock Market in 1994 (before CBK) and today speaks for itself. Look at the gigantic Mahaweli project the UNP completed whereas these guys in the present PA can't even get their act together to organise a simple thing like the garbage collection in Kotte.

If you say the UNP is also not on then the only other alternatives are:

1) Beg the British to re-colonise us for 20 years and put the administration of the country back on track and re-build (from scratch) an independent and non-politicized Police, Army, Judiciary, Elections Commission and Public Service Commission.

OR

2) If we want to do it the Asian way, then hire an expatriate President - Lee Kuan Yew of Singapore - and ask him to put things right. We hire expats for so many other jobs, why not the for the most critical job in the country when our existing rulers are so pathetically corrupt and incompetent ?

Think about it.

I am neither a supporter of the UNP nor the SLFP nor even the Muslim Congress.

I stand for what is RIGHT and GOOD for our nation even if it has to be handed over to another country to babysit for another 100 years.

Language, Culture, and National Flags dont feed starving stomachs nor do they shelter us from the sun and the rain. Neither will they end this evil ethnic conflict.

TO:  Chandrika Wijeykumaranatunge (sorry if misspelt)

FROM: On be-half of the Victims (Sri Lankans)

Dear Mrs. Chandrika W.,

Please "Madam", we have had enough starting from your loving father until you in the seat.

So please do not bring your son/daughter too. Is it not sin and shame that a boorish family keeps destroying the entire nation for years?

"May your soul rest in peace!"

Thanks.

There is really no point in hate or name calling or insults to anyone, be they good, bad, or ugly.

What we need are postive comments for positive action that will help us get out of this mess we are in. Let's get cracking guys n gals!
