Chandrika's bad timing started when she killed or could not protect her own cabinet minister AHM Ashraff, followed by her silence on the Mawanella violence and finally sacking Rauf Hakeem!

Interestingly all three incidents are related to the Muslims!

Communal/ Ethnic unity is the need of the hour
« Reply #1 on: December 7, 2001, 05:08:12 PM »

Dear Ahmed,

In short CBK / PA is bad news and the recent elections have proved it. My personal opinion is good riddance. However, at the same time the likes of late Mr Ashraff and Mr Hakeem have been playing the communal card in politics, fanning flames of racial tension. Mr Hakeem was the worst and I personally do not feel that CBK was unjust in sacking him.

We certainly do not want this type of politics in our country. The negative side of this sort of politics is known best by none other than Sri Lankans. THERE IS NO ROOM FOR COMMUNAL POLITICS, and this would certainly destroy us. We all have made mistakes and perhaps with this new government in sight, we should be able to work things out, for everyone’s sake. At the end of the day, it is not the ministers and communal/terrorist leaders who suffer as they live in their lap of luxury, it is the poor who ultimately pay with their lives. We have to provide a future to our unborn generations and we certainly owe it to them. We certainly do not want to end up like Afghanistan or former Yugoslavia.

Together we will be strong, very much like our cricket team. However at least now, we should promote racial / ethnic harmony and condemn those who fan flames of communal politics. This should strengthen the hand of Democracy and get rid of our corrupt politicians. After all Sri Lanka belongs to all SRI LANKANS, we should not try to tear it apart.

Dear Chaminda,

I am not a supporter of SLMC or Hakeem!

All what I say is when the whole world knows that Mahipala Herath is the key person who arranged the Mawanella violence, why CBK did not take any action?  That is the main reason Hakeen had to argue, demand and make some strict statement against CBK and her govt,. to get good name from his community, I do not think that is wrong?

I sincerely hope that the new administration would bring these people to justice. This certainly includes the Ratwatta’s, Defence secretary, Mervin Silva etc etc…

I am quite relieved that PA and its corrupt administration is no more, to say the least. I hope that we all can let bygones be bygones and look forward to a prosperous future.

p.s. My apologies if I misinterpreted your initial posting.

Chaminda,

I do appreciate your comments and the way of thinking. If everybody from every different religion thinks in the same fashion, there we have OURLANKA ... a much better, developed Lanka, our mother.

Is there any chance of organising a 'Sathyagraha' outside the residence of Anurudda Ratwatte for slaying 10 Muslims in Kandy? This phoney corrupt general should be brought to justice.

This will have a serious impact, especially if it is done peacefully. I repeat PEACEFULLY – no rioting and burning of anything. Try and get, if possible a cross section of the local community (Buddhist Monks, Catholic priests, Singhalese, Muslims and Tamils). Try and show that you can deal with aggressors in a way they cannot suppress you and better them in moral standing.

good luck.
